TREVOR BODOGH

At only 23 years old Trevor is already a successful action sports athlete, motivational speaker and entrepreneur. His sport is called BikeTrials – an extreme form of bike-hopping which, when Trevor does it, defies gravity.

The most recent development in Trevor’s career is a chance to pitch an idea on the hit Canadian show, Dragon’s Den! We talked to Trevor to find out more about his extreme life.

KW: How did you first get started in BikeTrials?

TB: By accident! One day I saw a guy hopping his bike on some park benches… I knew from that moment that the combination of bicycles and hopping was going to take over!

KW: What do you like most about your sport?

TB: I love pushing myself to my maximum potential. This sport requires 110% focus and concentration at all times, and is a great mental and physical exercise, yet incredibly fun!!

KW: How do you stay focused during competitions in such an intense sport?

TB: I have learned that it comes down to preparation and practice. BikeTrials has a large mental component: visualization, if you will. You have to be able to see where you will place your tires, and how to best craft your strategy to do as well as possible.

KW: How important is overall fitness, health and strength to your sport?

TB: Essential. If you look at any professional athlete today, they all invest in something very important… themselves. With the sport of BikeTrials, you need to have a strong back, arms and legs to be able to do the jumping. As well, when you get into a competition environment, you need the stamina that you get from endurance training.

KW: Was it difficult to balance training, your own business and school? How did you do it?

TB: Absolutely. School definitely took priority, then riding whenever possible and now, all the business stuff is starting to surface. Going to school was strange for me because as a younger person I wasn’t too fond of school. However, when I started to get into the groove of it and understand how important it was, I buckled down, did my best, and in the end… I LOVED IT!

KW: Tell me a little bit about Dragon’s Den, were you terrified to pitch your idea?

TB: Dragon’s Den came about from a forum at my former college. One of the coaches was there and mentioned an open casting for Toronto… I had some ideas on the go… so I said absolutely! Was I terrified? Absolutely x 2! Especially when the TV producer was counting me down to appear before the Dragons… “10, 9, 8, 7, 6….”

KW: How did you calm your nerves?

TB: I calmed myself by swallowing my pride, my anxiety and fears. I realized this could change my life and that it was an opportunity not to be afraid of, but to welcome into my life! …”5, 4, 3, 2, GO!”

KW: What is your greatest achievement so far?

TB: Pursuing my passion to live life in the most enjoyable way: on my bike, doing what I love to do and inspiring others along the way. BikeTrials.
