Daniel Dhers

Age: 24

Sport: BMX

Why we love him: Machine-like precision – even on the most difficult of tricks! – great flair, tailwhip and variations, and a serious presence on the podium.

kw: Tell me about when and how you started with BMX.

DD: I started riding when I was 12 turning 13. I remember all my friends got into riding around our block so I started doing the same until one of them started bunnyhopping and it caught my eye. So me and him adventured into the freestyle world!

kw: What is the trickiest move you can do, and how did you master it?

DD: I probably have two. One of them I’ve done in competition and it’s called the Cash Roll: it’s a very bizarre spin that I somehow learned by accident and it’s probably my most complicated spin trick I do. The other it’s a 720 barspin to no hander, I’ve only done like 3 on the resi and I haven’t done it in a competition yet, I think it’s a super commitment and technical jumping trick that hopefully I can master through this season.

kw: What are you looking forward to most about the upcoming X Games?

DD: Redemption! I didn’t do so well last year so I wanna make it up to that podium again!

kw: Who is your biggest competition, and why?
DD: Every year more people keep adding themselves to this list. I think Scotty Cranmer, Ryan Nyquist, Mad Dog, Mark Webb and Spinner have been my nemeses over the years.

kw: Can you tell me about some of the volunteer work you are doing?

DD: Red Bull and I got together and did this event called Under My Wings and the idea it’s to teach kids about the sport and encourage them into riding, we need our sport to grow and I think starting with the kids it’s the first step.

kw: What tips do you have for kids who would like to BMX as well as you?

DD: Do it because you love it, it’s a very peculiar sport and once you try it it’s really hard to let go!
